IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION TO ROSENDAL COUNTRY RETREAT

 

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey to our retreat in Rosendal, Free State, please read the travel directions carefully. Navigation apps may lead you to unnecessary dirt roads — the following routes are recommended for your convenience and safety.

 

Travelling from Gauteng:

 

Recommended Route via N3:

 

• Take the N3 highway southbound towards Villiers.

• At Villiers, take the turnoff to Bethlehem (R26/N5).

• From Bethlehem, follow the road towards Fouriesburg (R26).

• Just before Ficksburg, turn right onto the R70 towards Rosendal.

• Continue on the R70 until you reach Rosendal.

 

This is the most reliable route, avoiding the current roadworks near Senekal.

 

Alternative Route via N1 (with caution):

 

• Take the N1 southbound to Ventersburg.

• From Ventersburg, take the R70 towards Senekal.

• At Senekal, join the N5 heading towards Paul Roux.

• Shortly before reaching Paul Roux, look out for the Rosendal turnoff on your right.

• This gravel road is 19 km long and connects back to the R70, about 6 km from Rosendal.

 

Note: Parts of the R70 between Senekal and Rosendal are under construction — please drive carefully if you choose this route.

 

Travelling from KwaZulu-Natal 

 

• Take the N3 north bound to Harrismith.

• From Harrismith, follow the N5 west to Bethlehem.

• Continue on the R26 to Fouriesburg.

• Before reaching Ficksburg, turn left on to the R70 towards Rosendal.

 

Traveling from Bloemfontein: 

 

• Depart Bloemfontein on the N8 east, which smoothly bypasses Thaba Nchu and Botshabelo. After about 78 km, you’ll arrive just south of Ladybrand. 

• At Ladybrand, transition onto the R26 north, passing through the town centre and continuing for approximately 35 km to Clocolan

• From Clocolan, stay on the R26 heading north-east until you reach Ficksburg

• Just after Ficksburg, turn left onto the R70 to Rosendal.

 

When you arrive in Rosendal:

 

• Drive straight into town and continue until you reach Van der Merwe Street.

• Turn left into Neethling Street.

• Follow the signs to The Rosendal Country Retreat.

 

Please ignore navigation apps that suggest back gravel roads around town — the best route is through the main entrance
