The Rosendal Country retreat is steeped in local history and was once a working cheese farm. A few years ago, it was lovingly taken over by the owners of the well-known Rosemary Hill Farm and The Greenhouse Café located just east of Pretoria, who reimagined and refined the property into a destination perfectly suited for weddings, corporate functions, retreats, and restful staycations.
Every corner of the retreat tells a story — from its sandstone architecture and tranquil gardens to the gentle pace of life that invites guests to slow down and reconnect. Today, The Rosendal Country Retreat blends its rich past with quiet luxury — a sanctuary where guests can gather, celebrate, or simply unwind amid the stillness of the Eastern Free State landscape.

ABOUT THE TOWN

Nestled at the foot of the majestic Witteberg mountains in the Eastern Free State, the village of Rosendal invites you to relax, rejuvenate, and simply breathe.
Here, peace and quiet reign supreme — a haven where time seems to stand still and nature takes centre stage.
This charming hamlet is a photographer’s paradise, a sanctuary for artists and writers seeking inspiration, and a place where friends reconnect and weary travellers find rest.
With its warm-hearted locals, sweeping mountain views, and unhurried rhythm, Rosendal is that small town with the big heart.
Take the time to explore, to linger, and to indulge in #SLOWLIVING at its finest.

Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art
of leaving things undone.
The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials.
