THE ROSENDAL country retreat is situated in the breathtaking little town
of Rosendal in the middle of natural splendour, providing the
perfect get-away from the rushed city life. Rosendal is a small picturesque
town in the Eastern Free State. It is situated in a valley surrounded
by the Witteberge, part of the Drakensberg range. The area is on
average 2408m above sea level. The mountains add to the natural beauty
of the area. The mountains were formed
2 million years ago with lava being deposited over the Tafelberg
sandstone deposit.
Green willows line fast flowing creeks, some up to 17m deep. A large
number of species of trees, shrubs, succulents, wild flowers and
grasses grow in the fertile soil. Many species of bird frequent
the area including Vultures and Blue Cranes.
The town and surrounding area have a number of historical sandstone buildings
that are really worth a visit. Art, hiking, adventure sport, horseriding
and visits to interesting farming industries are just some of the
things Rosendal offers. Picnic at one of the
spots available and just enjoy the pristine fresh air and magnificent
surrounds.
Only 3 hour's drive from
Johannesburg and 4 from Pretoria, this gem of a country retreat is
a haven of tranquility and beauty, offering the best of South African
country life.
